When Amaranth Wellbeing approached us after the 1st UK lockdown they needed to grow online sales. Despite being an essential retailer and being able to open, footfall in their Manchester City Centre store was little to none existent with people choosing to stay local. Amaranth was able to keep their Bramhall store open and sales were steady over the period as people looked to invest in their health and wellbeing.

The wellbeing brand already had an online website but it wasn’t performing well and they needed an overhaul after four years of slow online sales and a site that was struggling to keep up with other ecommerce websites in the wellbeing space.

Migrating to Shopify to grow ecommerce sales

With two stores and an online store it was important to connect inventory and customer experience across channels.

We recommended Shopify as the right platform for their needs because of its ability to scale, track omnichannel experience and the simplicity of the dashboard. Another feature that appealed to Amaranth was the ability to easily add local pick up to their site. Something that became increasingly important during the pandemic was shopping locally, local pickup was easy to set up using Shopify and has been well used in the run up to Christmas.

With over 2000 product lines and multiple product suppliers, it seemed like a daunting task for Amaranth to migrate to a new ecommerce platform but with imports the product upload time was reduced and within 2-3 weeks we had fully migrated all products, imagery and supporting product information to the new site.

In total, the site migration and design took 2 months to complete.

With Core Web Vitals around the corner, a move to Shopify was perfectly timed. With super fast servers and in build CDN – it made sense as a better ecommerce platform for SEO. We also considered Core Web Vitals when building the site, ensuring images were scaled and correctly sized when uploaded.

301 redirects were used to ensure the site didn’t lose organic search traffic from pages already ranking on Google, we were careful to maintain SEO performance throughout the build. Work to improve SEO performance was a priority for product category and “near me” searches to boost local pickup orders.

Growing sales with a new ecommerce site

The new site has increased sales, improved site conversion rates and improved customer experience.

Using Facebook and Instagram ads and some of the existing SEO traffic the site was achieving we were able to increase sales by 125% compared to the same period last year, making for the most successful November and December the store has ever seen online.
